Management of pathogenic agents, including human blood and other potentially infectious body fluids and materials, biological toxins, and recombinant DNA molecules must be conducted in accordance with Federal, State and Local Laws, and as outlined in the following Syracuse University  Programs and Guidance Documents.  Principal Investigators, Area Supervisors or other employees in supervisory capacity are responsible for compliance with applicable regulations and appropriate Program requirements.

Blood and Body Fluid Cleanup Procedures

SU's Blood and Body Fluid Clean-up Procedures address the unique issues of concern when dealing with such events.

Bloodborne Pathogens Program

SU personnel exposed to blood or other infectious materials in the workplace setting are protected by the mandatory protective policies outlined in the Bloodborne Pathogens Program .

Controlled Substances Program

The Controlled Substances Program sets specific requirements for the possession and use of Controlled Substances at Syracuse University. Researchers must receive  approval from a Syracuse University Controlled Substance License Holder prior to ordering or taking possession of a Controlled Substance.

Regulated Medical Waste Disposal

Regulated medical waste must be managed in accordance with state and federal regulations. This material must not enter the regular solid waste stream (regular trash) under current regulations. Complete and accurate information must be provided on the pick-up request form to schedule pick-up service with EHO.
