The Ionizing Radiation Protection Program provides guidance for safe use of ionizing radiation. The Program is administered under the direction of the Radiation Safety Officer and is governed by SU's Radiation Safety Committee. The Program is designed to provide effective safety management, basic safety instruction and essential safety services related to the use of radioactive materials and radiation-producing equipment. The services provided by the radiation protection staff include compliance inspections, periodic surveys, sampling and analysis, waste management, radiation worker training sessions, and purchase requisitions for radioactive material. The University's Radiation Protection Program Handbook provides information concerning biological effects of radiation, NYS regulations and University regulations and guidelines.
