
In compliance with federal (US EPA), state (NYS DEC)
and local hazardous waste disposal regulations, SU
requires that arrangements for disposal of hazardous
materials be coordinated by EHO. The written
program provides guidance for those responsible for
hazardous waste management. Hazardous waste materials
will be collected by EHO and transported to an
appropriate disposal facility by a licensed firm. EHO is
responsible for maintaining contracts with disposal firms
and documentation of disposal activity. Laboratory
supervisors and other supervisory personnel in areas
which generate hazardous waste are responsible for:
All waste materials must be identified by the
generator regarding composition and hazardous
characteristics. This information must be provided to EHO
staff prior to pick-up, both for safety and regulatory
reasons. Pickup may be scheduled through a phone call
to the EHO or by using the Pickup
Request Form. Pickups will be scheduled and
coordinated by the Hazardous Materials Technologist.
